What is SB 72?
In 2025, SB 72 was signed into law and establishes statewide water supply targets while requiring the State, water community, and stakeholders to follow through on comprehensive, long-term water supply solutions that transform water management in California.
SB 72 has been signed into law. What’s next? Without a comprehensive, actionable, and enforceable water plan, the state will find itself stalled in developing the future water supply needed to support the fourth-largest economy in the world.
